The Compost Diaries Story
It all began when we moved to a new home that had a rather large garden.
My husband got really excited about growing lots of vegetables and having his own compost bin to feed all said vegetables. I was happy to cook said vegetables to help him with this.
So we got a large compost bin for outside, and a small compost bucket for the kitchen, this way we could collect all our scraps on a regular basis to then tip them into the large one outside. You get the picture.
Our first full bucket of scraps filled up really quickly, it was complete with food, coffee, tea bags and all things that could disintegrate happily in the bin. However, I had some roses that looked like they were dead, so I threw them on the top ready to be discarded. Once I did this I had to take a second look - this actually looked really beautiful, the colors, the shapes, the texture, everything about it made me whip out my phone and take a snap. Of course, then instagram it and make it a whole lot prettier. One rose suddenly looked way too good to throw out at that point, so it survived another day...but this did give me the idea to record all the tossed out waste and show how beautiful it can look before it makes it's way to compost heaven.
The result is the images that have followed. I continue to take pictures as often as I can, and since motherhood has taken over my life so an even bigger love of cooking has developed which = LOTS of really fun and interesting compost waste.
On top of this I have decided to include some compost inspired recipes, and being an artist myself, watch this space for some paintings I am currently working on! Finally for more regular photos, follow me on instagram, www.instagram.com/compostdiaries
Enjoy and bon appetite!
